About

Carol Kirk Witbeck

Carol is the mother of two children, four grandchildren, and an aunt to forty-four. She has always enjoyed working with the children in her family, neighborhood, church, PTA, and 4H groups.

She and her husband of 50+ years reside in the Morgan Valley located in the beautiful Wasatch Mountains of Utah where she enjoys reading, writing, crafting, handwork, artwork, sewing and music. She started her small business when she began making doll clothes, teaching flute lessons and making floral arrangements. Using the age old adage, “Let your light so shine…“, she called her business “Candle on a Basket.”

Recently, her granddaughter, Kimberly, jokingly said, “Gramma, you need to write a book called how to be a Gramma”. So, a new book was written. “How to Be a Gramma” is a fun, uplifting story about what a Gramma doesn’t have to do to be one. Carol celebrates Grammas in all their shapes, sizes, and ethnic backgrounds. Grammas don’t have rules; they can just be themselves and have a wonderfully rewarding relationship with their grandchildren.

Her first book, “A Bedtime Story for Jeffrey – How to Explain Death to a Child”, was written when a friend lost her husband to brain cancer, their children had lots of questions that were hard to answer. In response to her friend’s need, Carol wrote a short story explaining death in a way a child could understand. She realizes that death is not a celebrated topic and is not written about very often because of that very reason. Who really understands enough about death to discuss it? But it is universal and we’ve all known someone who has died and know that death is part of this life experience. However, this is a charming little story of a mother comforting her son with answers to the innocent questions of a child who has lost his father. The story is simple and direct and is written in a loving, tender way. Carol’s hope is that it will bring peace to all who share it with someone they love.

“His Redeeming Love” was written at Easter time and expresses Carol’s love for the Savior and how much love He showed us all in His willingness to suffer horrendous pain both in Gethsemane and the cross.
